Scientific Name: Passiflora Edulis

Common Name: Purple Passion Fruit Vine

Description: Passiflora Edulis "Purple Passion Fruit Vine" is an evergreen, flowering vine that loves to climb and spread.  The flower is a showy purple with white and approximately 3 to 5 inches wide.  Each unique flower lasts about one day, appearing in the summer and early fall.  An attractive plant that is primarily grown for the delicious, tangy, edible fruit.

Uses: Purple passionfruit is highly aromatic and has a tropical and floral, sweet-tart flavor with musky undertones.  The pulp and seeds are edible. Popularly used as a topping for desserts, it can be used to make sauces, syrups and jam.  The flesh can also be strained to remove the seeds, and the juice can be blended into smoothies or mixed into cocktails and desserts.

Care: The Plant will spread and climb and should be supported on a fence, trellis, or arbor. Fertilize two or three times each year to maintain vigorous growth.  Passion fruit is moderately drought tolerant and can be grown in different soils. This plant does require a position in the landscape that receives full sun for best flowering and fruit production.
